FAQ
When and where is the audition?
The open audition is October 2nd 2024 in North Hollywood, CA. Currently, everyone's audition is 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. However, if we reach a certain number of registrations, I will split the group in half and have two auditions: one from 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM and a second from 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM. My goal is to make the audition as efficient as possible while ensuring everyone has enough space to dance and be seen. If you have a scheduling conflict, I may be able to accommodate your preference between the two times. After you submit the audition registration form, you will receive an email confirmation with the location address and your call time on or before September 29th.
When does the season start?
This season runs January 2025 - November 2025.
What is the deadline to register for the audition?
You must register for the audition by Sunday, September 29th at 11:59PM PST.
When will the results of the audition be announced?
The results of the audition will be delivered via email or phone call no later than November 15th.
Will there be an audition every year?
Currently, I’m planning on holding an open audition once every 2 - 3 years.
What can I expect at the audition?
There will be two across the floor passes (a technique combo and a freestyle) and followed by a 45 second combo to be performed in smaller groups.
Is there an age limit?
Yes, you must be 17 or older to audition.
What are we looking for in the audition?
I’m looking for about 20 core company members who must be incredible technicians, movers, and storytellers. I want to work with smart and creative dancers who pick up choreography quickly and are passionate about the things I value— innovation, musicality and artistry. My core company members must be versatile and able to excel in every one of my pieces and subgenres. In addition, I’m looking to build rosters of dancers who will be invited throughout the year to be a part of Klein Collective projects and jobs when I feel the style of the piece suits them or when I want to create a piece with a larger cast. This audition will the one time this year that I’ll be finding dancers to invite into company projects throughout the year when needed.
In this audition, I am also looking for a handful of apprentices who are excited to learn and grow with me. They will be working closely with me throughout the year to workshop choreography and be stand ins in company rehearsals.
Can I still be considered for the company even if I can not attend the in person audition?
Yes. While it’s strongly encourage to be at the in person audition if you live in Los Angeles, I will be allowing online submissions. If you don’t currently live in LA, but are planing to make the move in the next few months and would still like to be considered for projects this is an option for you. If you are an LA resident but are out of town during our audition, this would also be an option for you. Click below to start your online submission.
Will I be payed as a company member?
Klein Collective does not offer full time salary contracts at this time. Payment is project specific. If we are working a commercial gig, getting hired to perform as a company or receive a grant or sponsorship, payments will be distributed to the group of dancers working on that specific project. Even if the dancers are not officially a part of the company as core member but rather were invited for that specific project, they will still be paid equally. Many of our projects are unpaid but they are never required. I always support dancers to prioritize their paid commercial jobs if they arise in conflict with our company projects.
What is the time commitment?
For every project, I will ask for the company member’s availability. If they are available to do the project then I will include them. If they are not available for any reason, then they are not required to be apart of the current project. I want all my company members to continue to pursue their own professional goals, so they are always allowed to miss rehearsal for commercial jobs they are booked on. I am flexible and understand but in general, I want to work with dancers who genuinely want to be there.
Will there be a contract?
I'm asking the company members to commit for the season (January 2025 - December 2025) as I won't be adding any new members until the end of next year. However I won't be creating any type of official contract so if life takes you in a different direction or you feel you need to leave the company for any reason, you definitely can. I encourage everyone to pursue all their other dance dreams simultaneously. For example, say you book a tour with an artist and have to leave LA for a few months, that would be 100% okay. I would be thrilled for you and encourage you to take it and excited to welcome you back into the company whenever you return back to LA.
Do I need to bring anything or prepare anything for the audition?
No. Since the online registration includes a digital headshot, you do not need to bring anything to the audition except water and maybe a snack as it may be a few hours long. I’m planning on doing three short combos so you won’t need to prepare any solo choreography of any kind. Please don’t feel to need to wear anything to make you stand out. I’d rather you just feel comfortable and look like yourself.
